Many older RPGs also contain gay-friendly aspects. For example, 1988’s Dragon Warrior CD includes a minor transgender character, Birdo, who is confused by other characters as an attractive girl because of their attractive appearance and exuberant manner of speaking. Nintendo later censored the character. This was before the introduction of the ESRB, which allowed games to have blood, female enemies and more sexually suggestive content.
Mass Effect has recently added options that allow players to establish relationships of the same gender with NPCs. The games allowed players to choose whether they wanted an male or female relationship. Mass Effect 3 as in 2017’s Mass Effect Andromeda also let players fall in love with transgender Niles.
Other games that have gay content are Life Is Strange: True Colors and Saints Row. These games give you a range of romantic choices without relying solely on biological sex. They also provide an understanding of characters through descriptions of their motivations and personalities.
Some other examples of queer games are available in the 2015 indie title Undertale, which features pansexual protagonists who are able to romantically bond with either the male or female characters. The character is quirky and idiosyncratic, and the game provides plenty of emotional value to those who play it.
Dream Daddy, a 2017 dad dating simulation game is a wonderful example of gaming that is queer.
